Dr. Phyu Phyu Oo is an experienced public health and GBV practitioner, and researcher with over 10 years of expertise in development and humanitarian sectors, working with United Nations and International NGOs. In 2023, she was awarded a doctoral degree from Griffith University, and in 2015, she received a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Currently, Dr. Oo is a Program Manager for Papua New Guinea at the International Women's Development Agency (IWDA) in Australia to support local women organisations in implementing Women’s Empowerment and Voice for Equal’s Rights project. Her research interest includes the pressing issues of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in conflict settings and interrogating the state efforts in preventing and responding to the issues.
Dr. Oo has contributed to multiple research projects focusing on SGBV in Southeast Asian countries, including consulting the United Nations on researching Myanmar’s women’s rights movements and exploring GBV services following the military coup. She was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in 2014 and Griffith Postgraduate Scholarship in 2019. She also secured a SEED grant from Gender Equality Research Network of Griffith University to conduct research on refugees’ access to oral health care in Queensland.
